Julio Sardina focuses his practice on real estate cross-border matters between the United States and Mexico, with an emphasis on the legal aspects of structuring and financing projects, general corporate, mergers and acquisitions as well as tourist, residential, commercial and industrial development projects.

Julio advises various clients on legal issues related to the purchase and sale, implementation and development of several real estate projects, including the acquisition of land for the construction of major tourist and residential developments, such as hotels, golf courses and marinas, in various destinations in the Mexican Republic, the sale of assets and stock, and foreign investment in Mexico, among others.

  • Participated in the negotiation of various hotel operation contracts on behalf of major hotel chains for the operation of hotels in Mexico City, other cities and several beach destinations in the Mexican Republic (such as Hyatt Hotels Corporation, Accor, Starwood, among others).°
  • Represented Grupo Lar in the acquisition of several plots of land within Mexican territory, including Mexico City, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Puebla, Queretaro and the State of Mexico; assisted and currently assisting client in the creation of residential projects, including the incorporation of condominium regimes and obtaining of licenses and permits for the development of those residential projects.°
  • Represented Noma (World’s Best Restaurant 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2014) and Chef René Redzepi, in the opening and operation of the Pop-Up NOMA Restaurant in Tulum, Quintana Roo.°
  • Participated in the representation of Blackstone in the US$3 billion acquisition of the entire loan portfolio of General Electric Capital Real Estate (as the main counsel on the acquisition side of the transaction in Mexico). We handled the due diligence of the loan portfolio of the target company (including all lease agreements and collateral documents), the review and negotiation of the Mexican master factoring and assignment agreement, individual assignment agreements, indemnities, refinancing, and in some other matters related to such acquisition, and closing matters. This deal was named Latin Lawyer’s 2015 Corporate Finance Deal of the Year.°
  • Participated in the advisory of Mexican and foreign real estate investment funds in the acquisition of real estate assets in Mexico, such as PGIM (formerly Prudential Real Estate Investors Latin America) and Greystar.°
  • Assisted Accor, SA with the representation in several hotel management operations and in the spin-off of the investment division.°
  • Participated in the representation of BK Partners in the acquisition of several plots of land in Costa Alegre, Jalisco and the Riviera Nayarit and currently assisting client in the incorporation of condominium regimes and creation of planned communities in those regions.°
  • Assisted in the representation of Hyatt International, Inc. in the acquisition of the 756-room Hotel Nikko Mexico for approximately US$190 million from Japan-Mexico Hotel Investment Co., Ltd.°
