Angelika Hunnefeld is a commercial litigator with more than 25 years’ experience representing clients in cross-border commercial disputes, foreign law and counsel management and client development in multiple languages, including Spanish and Portuguese. Angelika has experience across a broad range of industries including sovereigns, telecommunications, financial services, pharmaceuticals, technology and energy. Her representations span several international jurisdictions including Latin America and the Caribbean.

Angelika has represented clients in numerous international and domestic arbitration proceedings before different arbitral organizations, including the American Arbitration Association (AAA), the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) and the International Chambers of Commerce (ICC). As Board Certified Specialist in International Law by The Florida Bar, her experience advising clients on cross-border disputes includes complex arbitration proceedings, matters involving multijurisdictional issues, enforcement of foreign judgments and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.

Angelika is frequently called upon by clients to develop strategies related to litigation (including pre-litigation planning), post-acquisition disputes, distribution agreements and commercial settlement negotiations.

She is recognized for arbitration in the Latin Lawyer 250 guide to leading business law firms of Latin America and serves on the International Law Certification Committee of The Florida Bar.

Experience

  • Represented the Government of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago in actions seeking enforcement, and defending against enforcement, of international arbitration award rendered by the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce.
  • Served as litigation counsel in matters involving the enforcement and vacatur of international and domestic arbitration awards under the New York Convention, the Federal Arbitration Act and the Florida International Commercial Arbitration Act
  • Served as litigation counsel in disputes involving foreign citizens and matters of foreign law, requiring expert consultation and presentation of legal issues governed by foreign law.
  • Served as litigation counsel in matters involving discovery requests in the U.S. made in connection with foreign proceedings pending in foreign jurisdictions.
