Future READY. The Next Decade of Immigration Law Practice

Dillon Colucci co-authored AILA’s “Future READY. The Next Decade of Immigration Law Practice,” published by the AILA Future of Immigration Law Practice Task Force, of which he is a member.

This collection of articles is a candid examination of the forces reshaping immigration law practice over the coming decade, commissioned by American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) leadership. Organized around ten core issues identified by the Task Force as most consequential for the future of the field, the report addresses technology, offering concrete frameworks for understanding what is already changing and what practitioners should be doing now to stay ahead of it, including the ongoing digital transformation of immigration agencies themselves. The report also examines significant shifts in how legal services are structured and delivered, addresses the human dimensions of practice, and looks outward at broader forces shaping the landscape, including shifts in global mobility patterns and the emerging intersection of climate change and immigration practice. AILA issues this report every ten years. Taken as a whole, this report is an invitation to deliberate on structural change, addressed to immigration practitioners at every level and career stage who want to understand where the profession is heading and what choices, made now, will determine what it becomes.
