Greenberg Traurig dominates the 2019 Rzeczpospolita Ranking of Law Firms in Poland

WARSAW June 11, 2019 – The Warsaw Office of Greenberg Traurig was recognized as the Leader in Poland with respect to two categories: M&A, Bankruptcy and Restructuring Law, and IPOs, Capital Markets and Securities in the latest edition of the Rzeczpospolita Ranking of Law Firms. Rzeczpospolita, Poland’s leading daily newspaper, annually publishes the most prominent legal domestic ranking.

Jarosław Grzesiak, Managing Partner, was named the Leading Lawyer in Poland with respect to M&A, Bankruptcy and Restructuring Law.

Jolanta Nowakowska-Zimoch, Partner and Head of the Warsaw Real Estate Practice was recognized as the Leading Lawyer in Poland with respect to Real Estate and the practice was ranked as recommended.

The latest Ranking of Law Firms placed Greenberg Traurig at number one on the list, as the law firm handling the largest number of significant transactions on the Polish market.

The firm was also recognized for handling a sophisticated transaction that required particular legal acumen. The transaction, which consisted in the sale by Deutsche Bank AG of its retail and commercial business in Poland to Santander Bank Polska, was supervised by Lejb Fogelman, Senior Partner and led by Stephen Horvath, Partner, Łukasz Pawlak, Partner and Michał Fereniec, Partner. The transaction had an innovative demerger structure that was pioneered by Greenberg Traurig in Poland and has since been established as a framework for such transactions. The transaction is also unique due to the direct migration of Deutsche Bank Polska’s transferred business data to the IT systems of Santander Bank Polska. The transferred business was operationally integrated with the business of Santander Bank Polska immediately upon completion of the transaction, and not considerably later, as it was the case in other similar banking transactions.

Along with the acquisition of Raiffeisen Bank Polska by BNP Paribas and the sale of Euro Bank by Société Générale, the sale of Deutsche Bank’s business to Santander is one of the three largest banking sector transactions we successfully finalized within the last year. The ability to simultaneously handle projects of such a complex nature and unprecedented scale confirms Greenberg Traurig’s dominant position in the field of M&A transactions in the Polish banking and financial services sector,” said Lejb Fogelman, Senior Partner at the Warsaw Office.

This year’s position of Greenberg Traurig in the Rzeczpospolita Ranking of Law Firms is the result of our involvement in the largest and most complex transactions and disputes both in Poland and in the CEE region. The trust our clients place in us and the consistent pursuit of our objectives and strategy for development underline our unique position among other law firms operating on this competitive and challenging market,” noted Jarosław Grzesiak, Managing Partner of the Warsaw Office.

Greenberg Traurig was ranked the third largest international law firm in Poland in terms of the number of advocates and attorneys-at-law.

The awards granted by Rzeczpospolita are not the only ones that Greenberg Traurig has recently received in Poland. Greenberg Traurig was named the 2019 and 2018 Most Innovative Law Firm of the Year for Poland by International Financial Law Review (IFLR) and the 2017 Law Firm of the Year in Poland by Chambers and Partners. Greenberg Traurig is also ranked as number one in the Mergermarket Global & Regional M&A Report 2018 in terms of the value of M&A transactions handled in Poland in 2018.
