Greenberg Traurig Welcomes Back John Chibbaro, Expands Real Estate Practice

MIAMI – April 18, 2023 – Attorney John V. Chibbaro has rejoined global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A. as a shareholder in the Miami office, where he will be part of the firm’s Real Estate Practice and work closely with the Environmental and Land Use teams.

Chibbaro returns to Greenberg Traurig after three years with Bilzin Sumberg in Miami, where he was a partner and head of its Resilience & Sustainability Team. At Greenberg Traurig, he will advise real estate developers, investors, and utilities on environmental and land use issues on the local, state and national levels, including work on renewable energy projects and related regulatory compliance issues.

“John understands the importance of Greenberg Traurig’s focus on client service and the need for collaboration across disciplines, which is why we are so excited to welcome him back home,” said Jaret L. Davis and Yosbel A. Ibarra, co-managing shareholders of the Miami office. “John has an established track record for thoughtfully crafting strategies that help clients handle complex regulatory issues before local, state and federal agencies.”

Chibbaro will assist clients in Florida and across the country with a wide range of development matters, including due diligence, entitlement strategy, regulatory compliance and permitting, contamination assessment, environmental approvals, and remediation.

“John is a multitalented attorney with a diverse skill set in real estate, environment and land use law, who brings a high level of sophistication to his practice,” said Miami Shareholder and Global Real Estate Practice Co-Chair Richard J. Giusto. “His return to Greenberg Traurig allows us to further address increased client demand particularly among large institutional property owners, who are focused on addressing the environmental aspects of real estate development and investment in renewable energy projects statewide and nationally.”

Among the representative matters Chibbaro has handled, he advised the largest self-storage provider in the United States through the pre-acquisition due diligence process for a Los Angeles suburban property to assess the level of environmental contamination present at the site and then worked with state and federal regulators to develop a remediation strategy. He represented a real estate developer in the $30 million purchase of a 1.75-acre Midtown Miami site for a mixed-use development with rental apartments, parking, and retail space. He also helped a national homebuilder working on a residential project in South Florida to develop a revised site plan that received local environmental regulatory approval to preserve a stretch of Pine Rockland, a local endangered habitat.

“By returning to Greenberg Traurig, I am looking forward to expanding the scope and breadth of my practice,” Chibbaro said. “The firm’s global platform and the ability to leverage the collective experience of the more than 2,650 attorneys across the United States and globally will elevate the service and representation I can provide my clients.”

Chibbaro is admitted to the bar in Florida and California. He holds a J.D. from the University of Chicago and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.
