Greenberg Traurig Chicago Expands Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice with Addition of Reena R. Bajowala

CHICAGO – June 5, 2023 – Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP is expanding its Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice in the Chicago office with the addition of Reena R. Bajowala as shareholder. Bajowala joins from Ice Miller, where she was a partner and chair of the Data Security & Privacy practice.

Bajowala has deep experience with data security, information technology, and privacy law issues from both a counselling and litigation perspective. She investigates data breaches, including in business email compromise, ransomware, or wire transfer fraud scenarios. Bajowala conducts risk assessments, develops privacy and information security compliance programs, and plans for potential data security incidents. In addition, she helps evaluate legal risks relating to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, connected devices, and drones.

Bajowala also has extensive litigation and trial experience. She represents buyers and providers of IT services facing issues ranging from billing and performance disputes to copyright and licensing disputes.

“We are always looking to strategically and intentionally grow our team to add to our bench in this space,” said Jena M. Valdetero, Chicago shareholder and co-chair of the firm’s U.S. Data Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice. “With an increased regulatory focus, new privacy laws, and emerging tech issues like artificial intelligence (AI) and new data privacy challenges, clients need nimble, sophisticated legal counsel now more than ever. Reena brings the knowledge and experience needed to help our clients navigate these changes.”

Bajowala is on the steering committee of the Cyber Fraud Task Force and was selected as a 2021-2023 Business Law Fellow in the Cybersecurity Subcommittee for the American Bar Association.

“I am looking forward to joining a dynamic team of professionals across a complex space like cybersecurity and data privacy,” Bajowala said. “Greenberg Traurig’s global platform is supportive of my clients’ global efforts to manage cybersecurity and data privacy risks in an ever-evolving landscape. New technology like generative AI is changing the dynamic of how companies do business. New legislation is arising worldwide. Having a robust, reliable team around you to collaborate with and support your efforts is exciting.”

Bajowala received her J.D., cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School and her B.A. from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
