Greenberg Traurig Expands Its Presence in Asia with Singapore Office

SINGAPORE – April 14, 2023 Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP opened an office in Singapore, the firm’s fourth in the Asia-Pacific region and 45th globally. The office is opening with the team that recently launched the firm’s Asia Energy & Infrastructure Practice, including Practice Head Joseph Kim and Shareholders Jared Raleigh and William Wu.

Singapore is renowned as a vital gateway to Southeast Asia and an international trade and financial hub. The Singapore office will collaborate with the firm’s Seoul, Shanghai, and Tokyo offices, as well as other offices around the globe, to provide seamless support for a broad range of client matters.

“Singapore is a fast-growing center of business activity in industries and practices where we already focus, including Energy & Infrastructure, Energy Transition, Real Estate, Venture Capital, Private Equity, Wealth Management, Finance, Arbitration, and Disputes,” Greenberg Traurig Executive Chair Richard A. Rosenbaum said. “When we found the opportunity to welcome highly acknowledged industry leaders with deep experience and strong on-the-ground presence in the region, it was time to move forward. Singapore will serve as a link to our other offices in Asia, where we are well-established, and to clients in Taiwan and around the world.”

According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, Southeast Asian countries must annually invest an average of approximately $210 billion to achieve their climate goals. Greenberg Traurig’s Energy & Infrastructure Practice is well-positioned to assist clients in the entire lifecycle of renewable energy, hydrogen, EV battery and related supply chain, and digital infrastructure projects, ensuring comprehensive support throughout each stage. The firm’s experience in energy transition strategies will be instrumental in helping clients navigate the evolving legal landscape and achieve their sustainability goals.

“It is a privilege collaborating with Greenberg Traurig’s highly regarded attorneys spanning practices and industries in worldwide locations at the forefront of finance, banking, technology, regulatory, energy and natural resources, and other critical capabilities to provide broader service and better value to clients in the region and to grow the Singapore office,” Joseph Kim said.

“With Joseph, William, and Jared, we found an extremely well-known and highly sought-after energy and infrastructure group with decades of experience in the region and broad diversity of skills and experience in complex transactions,” Greenberg Traurig Vice Chairman Richard A. Edlin said. “Population growth and the need to commit to alternative energy sources is a reason why we believe this is a critical area in which to expand our legal services.”

Greenberg Traurig has been expanding its Energy & Natural Resources capabilities around the globe with other recent additions including Jeffrey A. Chester in Los Angeles and John Eliason in Washington, D.C., who serve as global co-heads of the Energy Project Finance & Development Practice, and Practice Shareholder Noah Pollak, also in Washington D.C.; Renewable Project Finance Shareholders Audrey Louison in Washington, D.C. and Eric W. Macaux in Boston; Energy Mergers & Acquisitions Shareholder Paolo Esposito in Milan; and the new Head of the Energy & Natural Resources Practice in PolandKonrad Kosicki.

The Singapore office opens on the heels of Greenberg Traurig’s affiliation with Khalid Al-Thebity Law Firm in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last month.

“Our strategy has always been to open offices where business and technology are thriving and that further strengthen the reach of our leading global platform. Singapore, much like Riyadh, is experiencing significant economic growth. In keeping with that strategy, we are also exploring expansion opportunities in Dubai and Brazil,” Richard Rosenbaum added.
